About the Nonprofit Excellence Awards
Every year, MCN honors the passion and impact of the Massachusetts nonprofit sector with the Nonprofit Excellence Awards. These awards are presented to six nonprofit organizations and employees exemplifying the most innovative, creative, and effective work being done throughout the Commonwealth.
2024 Event
The 2024 Nonprofit Excellence Awards took place at the New England Aquarium in Boston on June 12. Hundreds of nonprofit professionals, organizations, affiliate businesses, and supporters gathered to celebrate the sector.

Excellence in Advocacy
La Colaborativa- Chelsea, MA
For over 35 years, La Colaborativa has supported Latinx immigrants in Greater Boston. They partner with the community to provide resources to vulnerable community members, including newly arrived immigrants, undocumented families, non-English speakers, as well as low-income tenants and workers. They are committed to serving, protecting, celebrating, and uplifting people, ensuring a brighter future for all.
Excellence in Community-Building
Chica Project- Quincy, MA
Chica Project’s mission is to close the opportunity divide for Latinas and other Women of Color by empowering them with the skills, confidence, and network necessary to thrive personally and professionally. Their programs are designed to equip young Women of Color with the tools to navigate obstacles and become leaders in their lives, schools, and communities.
Excellence in Innovation
Boston Community Pediatrics- Boston, MA
Boston Community Pediatrics is the first nonprofit private pediatric practice bringing equity to pediatric healthcare in Boston. Due to systemic racism and structural inequities in our society, poverty and minority status are strongly correlated with disparities in care and health outcomes. This leads to long-term disadvantage in health, educational, and economic attainment. BCP’s innovative model centers on patients and their families, working together to eliminate all barriers to care.
Excellence in Leadership
Marisol Amaya-Aluigi, La Alianza Hispana, Inc.- Boston, MA
Marisol Amaya-Aluigi is the Executive Director of La Alianza Hispana, Inc., a community-based organization providing culturally and linguistically appropriate health and education programs to the Latino Community of Greater Boston. These programs empower and support our community through care, education, and connection, creating opportunities for individuals and families to thrive.
Excellence by a Small Nonprofit
Dream Out Loud Center- New Bedford, MA
Dream Out Loud’s mission is to advance the personal and career goals of South Coast residents through innovation, education and mentoring. They primarily do this through their Creative Careers Program, which uses creative writing, graphic design, music, theater and video projects to inspire a healthy individual and a vibrant community. Their center in downtown New Bedford provides a supportive environment for both youth and adults who are pursuing a creative path and/or career.
Excellence by a Young Professional
Josephina Lin, The Family Van- Boston, MA
Josephina Lin is the Research & Data Associate at The Family Van. Since 1992, The Family Van has improved healthcare access by partnering with underserved Boston communities. On the van, a team of community health workers provides free health screenings, education, and community referrals. Accompanied by students and volunteers, they foster client-centered, empathetic, and compassionate care.
